As my journey continues as someone new to the world of art, I give you my second attempt at a painting. This one upped the ante a little bit from my first. Clouds were considerably harder to do than the abstract looking buildings in my previous one. The girl in this one was slightly trickier to pull off than the first. It is far, far from perfect, but when something is your baby you tend to love it anyway and this one is still my favorite to date.
My technique is starting to improve a bit, even this early on. I learnt all about glazing mediums; something I had no idea existed before today. Acrylic paints tend to dry out quickly. A glazing medium helps with this and it also helps to thin out your paint a little too. Think of dipping your paint brush in water and then picking up your paint. Sometimes your brush gets too wet and paint leaks all over the canvas or sometimes your brush isn't wet enough and you end up depositing too thick a layer of paint on the canvas. A glazing medium alleviates this and helps to give you the perfect consistency...at least in my very novice opinion. I have barely used water since I discovered this little gem.
Then came the unexpected bit. I uploaded it to Instagram as I did with my first painting, which was completely cool because most of my followers on there are just random people that I don't really know. However there is a box that you check on IG that gives you the option to upload to Facebook as well, a box which I usually leave unchecked. I must have been really tired that day because the next day I woke up to dozens of notifications on Facebook and I genuinely wondered for a moment who died. Queue the embarassment when I realised what it was. I know almost everyone on my Facebook personally and it was definitely a hard thing to swallow that I was found out, despite all the positive comments and likes. I just wasn't ready to share that part of me with people that I know just yet. Needless to say I have made double sure since then that box remains unchecked before I post anything lol. Before I sound too complainy or whiny, the positive feedback was nice and maybe soon enough I will be able to share that journey with them.
As usual, all credit goes to the Art Sherpa for her lessons. One day I will be able to take everything I have learnt and branch out on my own.
